RSO Advisors

RSO advisors are important because they serve as role models for students and their involvement in the organization provides learning experiences that are transferable to situations beyond college. WHO CAN BE AN ADVISOR?

An RSO advisor may be any of the following:

  • A WMU faculty and/or staff member;

  • A WMU graduate student;

  • A local community member who has expertise that is relevant to the RSO's mission/purpose.

Please note: WMU undergraduate students cannot serve as RSO advisors.

RSO ADVISOR GUIDE

 The RSO Advisor Guide is the go-to document for advisors. It outlines the basics of serving as an RSO Advisor and includes information about campus resources, University policies, and much more. Links to advisor forms are available at the end of the guide.

It can also be helpful for RSO advisors to keep the  on hand.

RSO REGISTRATION FORMS

All RSOs are required to work with their advisors to complete two forms before registering via : RSO Advisor Letter of Intent and RSO Advisor Expectations Form. Students should make sure they acquire all necessary signatures before submitting these forms during the registration process.

ADVISOR EVALUATIONS

Completing the Advisor Evaluation Form is not required, but is highly encouraged on an annual basis. Feedback from students is important as it provides advisors with opportunities for self-reflection and growth.

ADVISOR ISSUES

If any issues arise between an RSO and its advisor, we highly encourage the complainant (whether they are a student or an advisor) to fill out the Advisor Complaint FormPlease submit the Advisor Complaint Form to the Graduate Assistant for RSO Development: @email.

Please note: Office of Student Engagement employees may be required to report certain complaints to the Title IX office, depending on the nature of the issue. Specifics are listed on the form.
